Awareness campaign

Breast Cancer Awareness

Around 1 in 7 women in the UK will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, and around 400 men are diagnosed each year. Our campaign helps your people get to know what is normal for them, check regularly, and act promptly on any change. Ideal for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, or at any time of year.

Expert-led webinars

Two webinars for your people to watch whenever suits them

The first webinar is about knowing your own body: the early signs to look for, and how to make self-checks a habit. The second is for anyone supporting a colleague through breast cancer: what helps, what to say, and where to turn for specialist support. Both can be played on the stand, and shared with everyone who could not make it in person.

Know your body

How to self-check and spot the signs

At the heart of the campaign is a simple message: get to know what is normal for your breasts or chest, check regularly, and seek medical advice promptly about any unusual changes. This is the guidance your people take away.

How to perform an effective self-check

1. Look in the mirror

Stand with your arms by your sides, then raised. Notice any changes in shape, size, or skin texture.

2. Feel in circles

Feel around each breast or your chest, up to the collarbone and under the armpits. Check for lumps or swelling.

3. Check each nipple

Feel around and over each nipple. Watch for any discharge, inversion, or rash.

4. Shower or lying down

Lying flat spreads tissue evenly, and checking in the shower can make lumps easier to feel.

Spot the signs

New lump or thickening

Unusual bumps or firm areas in the breast or armpit.

Nipple discharge

Any fluid from a nipple when not pregnant or breastfeeding.

Skin changes

Puckering, dimpling, redness, rash, or an "orange peel" texture.

Armpit changes

Swelling, lumps, or unusual sensations under the arm.

Nipple changes

Inversion, rash, or an unusual shape.

Size or shape changes

New asymmetry, sagging, or changes to the contour.

Most breast or chest changes are not cancer, but it is essential to have any unusual change checked promptly by a GP or healthcare professional. Early assessment can make all the difference.
