Awareness campaign

Cancer Awareness

Cancer touches almost every workplace. Finding it early makes a real difference, yet many people put off seeing a GP about a change, or miss the screening they are invited to. Our campaign helps your people recognise the early signs, understand the NHS screening programmes, and support colleagues affected by cancer. Ideal for World Cancer Day on 4 February, or at any time of year.

1 in 2

people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.

The earlier cancer is found, the more likely treatment is to be successful.

Our team runs a friendly, informative stand where your people can drop by, ask questions in confidence, and pick up clear information about the signs of cancer, screening, and where to find support. The aim is simple: no one should put off getting a change checked.

What is on the stand

  • The early signs: the changes worth getting checked, and why it is always better to ask.
  • Screening explained: the NHS breast, cervical and bowel screening programmes, who is invited and what happens.
  • Men's cancers: what men should know about prostate and testicular cancer.
  • Supporting colleagues: how to support someone living with cancer, or caring for someone who is.
  • Signposting to the NHS and to trusted cancer charities for information and support.

For a campaign focused on breast health, with a hands-on examination model, see our Breast Cancer Awareness campaign. The two combine well.

What your people take away

Changes worth getting checked

See a GP about anything unusual for you that does not go away, such as:

  • A new lump or swelling anywhere in the body
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Unexplained bleeding, including blood in your pee, poo or when you cough
  • A change in bowel habits that lasts
  • A cough or hoarseness that will not go away
  • A mole or skin change that looks different
  • Persistent pain, tiredness, or difficulty swallowing

Most of these are not caused by cancer, but getting them checked early is what matters.

Take up your screening invitation

Screening can find cancer before there are any symptoms, or even prevent it. In England, the NHS offers:

  • Breast screening for women aged 50 to 71, every 3 years.
  • Cervical screening for women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 64.
  • Bowel screening for everyone aged 50 to 74, with a home test kit every 2 years.

There is no national screening programme for prostate or testicular cancer, which makes knowing the signs all the more important.
