Empowering Change: The City Unites for Breast Cancer Awareness

Empowering Change: The City Unites for Breast Cancer Awareness with ‘Be Breast & Chest Aware: Make Self-Checks a Lifesaving Habit’
This October, the city comes together with the Lloyd’s Market for one of the largest city-wide health campaigns ever undertaken — powered by Thrive4Life and supported by Lloyd’s Corporation, the Insurance Families Network, and many city-based corporates.
Why This Campaign Matters
Breast cancer remains one of the most common cancers in the UK — around 1 in 7 women will be diagnosed in their lifetime, and roughly 400 men are diagnosed each year. Approximately 30% of cases could be prevented through healthy lifestyle choices, underlining how proactive care saves lives.
Prevention, early detection and prompt treatment have together saved almost 200,000 lives in the UK since the late 1980s — showing the powerful, life-changing impact of awareness and self-check education.
“Around 1 in 7 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime — making regular self-checks a vital habit.”

Leading by Example: Corporate Responsibility in Action
Progress has been made on workplace health, but real gaps remain. The CIPD’s Health & Wellbeing at Work 2025 report shows 75% of organisations take some action — yet over a third (37%) remain reactive rather than preventive.
Of organisations taking action, 75% include initiatives promoting physical health (such as preventive checks), while 25% give little attention to these measures — leaving an employee awareness gap which campaigns like ours aim to close.
Survival rates by stage (for context)
- Stage 1: Almost 100% survive five years or more
- Stage 2: Around 90% survive five years or more
- Stage 3: Just over 70% survive five years or more
- Stage 4: Around 25% survive five years or more
